Penultimate assembly is up...
Dear Peter,
I have made all the changes but one. The only thing I haven't done is
designed the clamps that hold the upper and lower frames together during
crane handling. The upper and lower ring halves are connected by a bolted
connection, the wire chamber support rods have been moved out .1" radially
and shortened in z, I've added lifting lugs on the frame, and corrected a
few errors and missed holes. I've also added a new trapezoidal shear plate
to the lower ring structure to stiffen the legs further.
There are two new smallish zip files at ftp.bartoszekeng.com/pub/mucap
. finaldetsup.zip is the model. The other is the first batch of 2Ds for my
draftsman in CO.
Let me know if there is something else that needs doing or fixing. I
had to make the adjustment plate that holds up the wire chambers thicker,
from .5" to .625" because the adjustment screws were only half on the edge
of the plate. This makes the gap between the ring structure and the TPC
gantry go down to about 1 cm, but I thought that was still enough. If it
isn't you can always notch the center of this plate.
Rick has been doing some backup calcs on parts for me and it looks like
we need to make the wire chamber support rods out of stainless steel to keep
the deflection down. Aluminum bends 3 times more than steel because of its
elastic modulus, so this substitution works fine mechanically. Let me know
if there is some reason not to change these rods to stainless.
I plan to write out the rest of the 2Ds on Thursday because I'll be
driving all day today. Chris will probably not be finished with the first
batch of details by the time I send the rest. Talk to you soon. If you
have any trouble unzipping the model file contact me by cell phone ASAP and
I'll resend it.
Ciao,
Larry
