Dear Larry,

Thanks for your mail and explanations. I will start a last voyage
into the drawing at home tonight, because my faster notebook is there.

Stainless steel is fine for the rod, please choose stainless with
small magnetic mu (it need not be an exotic very low mu kind). 

Final comments will follow tonight.
