question about pdmu fusion

Hi Peter,

in working on my high-Z correction document and dissertation, I spent some
time thinking about pdmu fusion. Using the numbers from the Muon
Catalyzed Fusion 5/6 (1990-91) papers, I estimated that the nonradiative
fusion yield (i.e. the Alvarez muon yield) should be ~ 6 ppm, which seems
roughly consistent with your Figure 2 in MuCap Note 30. This suggests
that the Alvarez muon yield in Prod-50 should have been comparable to the
observed high-Z capture yield of 12.9 ppm. Is this true? If so, why
don't we see more fusion muons? Is it because of mud diffusion? Or am I
missing something here?

BTW, after a week of work, I am finishing up my high-Z correction
document. Aside from some cleanup details (formatting, notational
consistency, proofreading), it should be mostly done by the end of the
day. Shall I send you a copy? You are, after all, listed as a co-author.
I'd like to have it wrapped up entirely by the time of next week's
teleconference, for submittal as a MuCap Note.

Regards,
Tom

P.S. Is the MuLan conference complete?
