Re: Muon-On-Request

Dear Peter,

The kicker was originally designed to operate with output pulse widths as small
as 200ns. With the overcurrent protection circuit we originally requested that you do
not operate below approximately 400ns pulse width. One reason is that the
overcurrent circuit will not be active for pulse widths below about 400ns
(due to delays). However I believe the breakdowns that we were experiencing prior to Dec 2004, which caused the overcurrent faults (and hence killed the MOSFETs), have been "cured" (by a combination of Anatoly's connectors and removing the insulation from the connection wires in the beam pipe). Hence, although it might be risky, you could potentially operate with pulse widths below 400ns. However, unless you need to do this, I would not recommend operating with a pulse width below 400ns.

The only other think I can think of, at present, is (as you say) to minimize cable delay.

*Please remind me what operating conditions you would ideally like for the Muon-On-Request mode. Thanks.*

Best regards,
Mike
