I just asked a KamLAND student who has been working a lot with lucite/acrylic
recently about this. The containers for the instrumentation units for
the 4pi calibration system are made of it. She said that, when they
need to open up one of the units (that has been epoxied closed) and the machine
shop doesn't have time to deal with it, she just puts it in a beaker of
ethanol. Within a few minutes it starts to become brittle enough to crack
open by hand.
