backup of dolphin

Dear Fred,

I inquired as discussed yesterday about the possibilities to have a dolphin
backup, in order to recover sudden loss of sensitive data or daq programs.

The situation at PSI is as follows:

The afs accounts are automatically backed up on a day's basis. But it is not
possible to spread this backup procedure to other computers like dolphin,
i.e. we have to do backups ourselves.

One safe procedure is to copy sensitive programs to one of our afs
accounts. Of course, the available memory space is limited to a few GB
per account.

If we need more space, we can use our afs project space which is larger
(/afs/psi.ch/project/mucap/...), but this space is not regularly backed
up, which is in my view unimportant, however.
A next step would be to use the archive for backups.

Finally, as an alternative, I see the use of a usb mounted external disk.
This would allow us to make a complete backup of dolphin.

So, it depends now on which necessities you really see for mucap.
