Tilted AK3 and aluminum target
Dear all,
since we have plans to run with other targets as well, we are trying to
think of a solution for that. To cover the circular whole (radius r)
with a 45 degres tilted target, we probably need an ellipse with the
axis a=r and b=r / cos(45). We found a spare plate of 1mm thick AK3 send
by Bernhard for the last MuCap run. One of these 25x25cm plates is used
for the MuCap target. The other one could serve for our ellipse. Now,
has somebody experience in cutting AK3 (Bernhard?)? The Hallendienst
gave us a metal scissor in order to avoid enormous heat production like
with sawing.
For the aluminum target there is 1, 1.5 or 2 mm thick aluminum in the
storage from which we could cut a disc. I would propose for both targets
to have a ring (like the column at the target) with 8 inch outer
diameter and ~7.5inch inner diameter where the targets can be fixed to.
That can be produced without opening the current beam pipe since for
that we have to remove the Apiezon. Only when the target is exchanged we
have to do that. Then the ring would go in place of the current target
holder. For the tilted target we could for example saw a 1mm thick slit
with 45 degrees into the ring where the target slides in to be held
without screws. The aluminum disc could be just screwed onto the ring.
