We definitely need a signal, and we need it to be delivered reliably.
But we only need to incorporate it into the data stream, and MuLan at
least doesn't need prior warning that it's about to happen (to us, this
is no different than the beam crashing :-). We certainly don't need to
modify the acquisition to deal with the issue, beyond incorporating the
signal. This also provides a perfect, "built in", reconstructible,
background free time window! (The _reconstructible_ part is important)
  Personally, I love this development.

So for us, we don't need (or even necessarily want) a prior warning
signal ... but we do need a "the beam is being kicked away now" signal
that comes when (and only when!) the beam is being kicked. Anything
less is unfortunate but not fatal, and anything more is gravy.

I can't comment on whether this does or does not affect MuCap.
