Re: scint repair
Dear Peter,
Sorry to hear about that. I'm not sure exactly where the light and glue
source are located, but it should probably be in the mulan
barrak/cabinet. It is a light colored (whitish) cardboard box about 1/2
meter tall and 30 cm wide/deep. The glue is located in a small cardboard
box and should be with the light gun. I believe the glue was reaching/has
reached the expiration date, but in principle should still work...
To use:
1) Safety : Go into a closed room or cover the barrack windows to protect
bypassers.
Wear the special UV goggles, probably also with the gun/glue. If you
are unsure about the quality of a pair, try putting some glue on some
paper, look away and see if you can harden the glue through the glasses.
2) To use the gun:
a) Let the gun warm up for about 10 minutes
b) You need to hook the hose into a hole in the front. The light comes
out through this object.
c) Set the dial to manual or timer. It takes about 3 seconds to
harden the glue if you shine the light directly on it. We typically used
two passes of 20 seconds to cover the whole area.
d) The foot pedal turns on the gun and the timer should set it off
3) Technique
a) For the mulan detectors I used about 5 "drops" from the glue tube to
cover the pmt area. I'm not quite sure how to scale this to the gondola
edge, but I don't think an excess should be problematic
b) Sweep the UV light back and forth through the light guide onto the
glue.
Ok, hope this helps. Please let me know if you need more instructions.
By the way, how did the gondola break? It wasn't a falling neutron
detector, was it? No catastrophe, I hope...
Best regards,
Brendan
