Re: progress and wishes
Dear friends,
thanks for Peters wishes. But let me now be a little more specific
concerning the TDC400 settings:
First, this is what presently goes into the tdc400 units (I label
them in crate 1: 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, and in crate 2: 2/1, 2/2, 2/3, 2/4)
tdc400 channels: 64-49 48-33 32-17
(ch 1-16 are for the clock)
1/1: TPC(A) anodes 1-16 low 1-16 high PC2 anodes 1-16
1/2: TPC(B) anodes 17-32 low 17-32 high PC2 anodes 17-24
1/3: TPC(C) anodes 33-48 low 33-48 high PC2 cathodes 1-16
2/1: TPC(D) anodes 49-64 low 49-64 high (PC1-not operating)
2/2: TPC(E) anodes 65-75 low 65-75 high PC2 cathodes 17-24
+ TPC strip-cath 33-35 low (+ c.33-35 ")
2/3: TPC strip-cath 1-16 17-32 empty
2/4: empty empty empty
Remark: Of the anodes, wires 1-4 and 73-75 are NOT amplifying, since
the wires are much thicker than 25 mu.
Tom, please check whether that agrees with your scheme and send me
the changes, if you prepared already a different scheme.
The mu+ beam is presently 28 kHz on S2 (4.5 kHz on S2A) and 18 kHz
being seen at the TPC entrance. The beam stops about in the center,
which can be deducted from the following flux measurements:
TPC anode wire number - mu flux [kHz]
5 17.5
11 17.9
16 16.7
21 16.0
27 14.7
32 13.4
37 11.8
43 9.9
48 7.4
53 4.5
59 1.9
64 0.7
The momentum is 38.5 MeV/c, about 10% higher than needed in 10 bar
protium. (This is due to the higher stopping power of 5 bar N_2).
One run has already been taken today in this mode, see
pc3608:/data/run00458.mid (about 1000 events)
I analyzed it with my present mu which is conc. the tpc very
rudimentary, see pc3608:/data/petitjean/hbook/muons_june2.458
*************************************
Secondly, this is my MAIN WISH:
=========
We have developed for the analysis of the 99b data (of the prototype
TPC) a number of routines which are skipped out of the present "mu"
version (which is mainly adapted for the CAEN data), namely:
- mu_hist_sq.f
- superq.f
- e_find.f
- e_suppress.f
- mu_cwn.f
- mu_find_tom_x.f
- mu_graph_tom.f
- mu_dispx.f
etc
you find them easily, e.g. in your old accounts in pc620:/home/old/...
Some of the routines find and trace muon tracks in the tpc, others run
very nice displays (even interactively). It would be a pitty not to use
this many yeaers long developments of tpc tracking.
Could you please try to revitalize them such that we can see where we
are with the tpc.
I wish you good luck! After having seen enough, we plan still this
week to replace the 5 bar N_2 by 10 bar protium. That will take about
2 weeks time. Would be great to be ready with protium when some of you
arrive at PSI by mid June!
Regards + see you soon
Claude
