Re: telephone call

Dear Peter,
Unfortunately, I shall be outside of CERN tomorrow afternoon.
So please call me on Wednesday (after fixing time by mail).
For the beginning, I shall try to summarize the status and plans at PNPI.

1. ePC.
We are prepared to send two people ( Andreev and Fetisov ) for two
months,
as we agreed before. In addition, Anatoly Krivshich will come for a
couple of weeks.
Taking into account the 5 weeks delay ,the starting date might be May10
(please confirm)

2. New TPC
The plan is to have the new TPC by the August run.
This is a very difficult task but I hope we shall manage with the help of
our colleagues.
    .

3. Gas circulation system
We expect it to be constructed in May /June and will be under tests
since July.
In our opinion, we shall not use it in the August run . One reason is
the limitations
in our visiting budget. So it would be better to perform the complete
tests of this system
at PNPI till the end of this year.

4 Participation in the May run.
At least, Gena Petrov will be at PSI in May-June (He will help also
with ePC)
Maybe one one of our physicists will come as well (question of money)

5. Participation in the August run
We plan to concentrate on this run spending most of our resources
Seven persons for about two months ( Gest house and tickets being
provided by PSI)

6. Depleted protium.
This work has been started, One column was put into operation.
First it was flushed for several days. Then it was operated in a regular
way during
only five days and produced 9 liters of the 30 ppm protium water.
Then it was refilled with fresh water and put into operation for longer
period (10-15 days)
We shall see soon the results. Meanwhile they will try to improve the
sensitivity of the
measuring device to - 1ppm level (10 ppm at present).
At least, one thing is clear already: we shall have enough depleted
protium for tests of the circulation
system in May. But the work will be continued according to the plans
I have described before
with the hope to produce the 1 ppm protium water and then to use it in
the new column
(H2O (water)-H2 gas exchange) to reach 0.3 ppm gas in our TPC.
In an optimistic scenario, this might happen by the end of this year.

7. Complete tests of the fully equipped TPC/gas circulation/protium
depletion /gas analysis systems
We would like to perform such tests at PNPI starting in the beginning
of the next year.
For that we shall need an oil-free pumping system. The most expensive
is the fore-vacuum pump.
We are investigating various possibilities to get such system.
