MuCap Shift Duties (MuCap page, run7)
Overview
The primary responsibility of the shift crew is to maintain save
experimental conditions and take efficient and
high quality data. The shift crew can leave the experimental barack
temporarely.
Main tasks:
- Familiarize yourself with the manuals.
- Read the recent elogs and the recent shift_sum.xls.
- Follow measurement plan (verbal, white board or from log book)
- Make sure that DAQ s running. This is monitored on the MIDAS status webpage.

- Make sure that the slow control
MIDAS is running.
- monitoring tasks: In
addition to the MIDAS status page you should monitor the
experimental equipment via
- slow control CAMAC
page (bears slow control window )
- slow control LAbview page (bears slow control window )
- slow control Trend plot page (bears slow control window )
- Borer scalers
- Bubble display on camera
- analysis tasks to check data
quality
- every hour run evdisplay
example: evdisplay /mnt/firewire/run04140.mid
- continuously check online monitor display on bears (pull down menu)
- Logbook entries:
- the main logbook is the elog. Report there
- significant changes and observations (make elog even if it is
recorded in shift_sum.xls)
- at the end of a shift, the shift leader has to write a brief
summary, e.g. shift goals, good runs and special
shift events.
- the shift_sum.xls on bears contains a list of run with brief
comments. Update those regularly and attach the latest
version of the shift_sum.xls to your shift summary elog.
ONLY THE SHIFT IS ALLOWED TO SAVE THE shift_sum.xls FILE TO AVOID OVERWRITING.
- We still keep a written logbook for notes during the shift.
These
handwritten notes should be transferred to the elog by the end of the
shift at the latest.
Emergency/trouble procedures:
- Hydrogen pressure drop: call Claude, Malte
- TPC, mPC2 trips: call Claude, Malte or Peter
- Gas alarm: Turn off ethane gas bottle left hand side or area.
Leave area.
- DAQ problems
- ePC troubles: contact Steve, Peter or Genna (according to shift
list or availability)
- eSC troubles: call Steve or Peter
- mPC1 troubles: call Genna, Peter
