RE: New gondola model and picture up...

Dear Peter,

The bulk of the work that was done on the last $4K was to develop the
ring support structure. Prior to your note below, I was working with the
understanding that Rick and I should come up with the rail system. We have
been looking at different vendors to find the cheapest rail system with
features that you could use. Rick also spent time on the framework under
the rings making sure that it would be stiff enough in all directions.
I know you said to halt for a bit, but I thought we could keep going in
a non-controversial direction on the platform so that we would not end up
with the painful time pressure we had with MuLan. I tried to get ahead, but
we may be doing some backtracking if the rails are now being provided for
us. We will need real mechanical drawings of these things to be able to
design them into our structure, as many dimensions as are possible. I
assume you are talking about a metric European brand.
It doesn't make sense for Rick to produce some JPEGS for you to look at
until he has the information he needs to incorporate the rails. Eric and
John requested we provide them with details of the channel on the new design
of the gondola for their prototype, so that may be where we really have to
stop for now until we hear from you.
     Talk to you soon.

                   Ciao,
                   Larry

Dear Larry,

Dave told me that he discussed with you our present conclusions
on how to proceed with the project.

I am at PSI now until Jul 11 and have the follwoing updates.

- My dimensions for the footprints and general geometry are
unchanged from my draft edet.doc which I sent you some weeks
ago. Alas, I cannot find my autocad drawing of that sketch,
but as these a simple sketches, please take the dimensions from
my pictures included in the doc file.

- I discussed with the service people here, rails should be
available with standard wheels, I will get this information
during the next days and send it to you. The floor is
of very good quality, so that the rails are always mounted
  on the floor.

- Tomorrow my student will e-mail to you the estimates for the
the weight of the detector electronic racks.

- As discussed, Rick should work out an overall concept drawing
for us to review and decide upon detailing.

Penny just informed me that we received another 4k invoice from
you for June. I thought that Rick had done most of the gondola
drawings within your previous 4k+ invoice in May. I will look into
your recent invoice as soon as I return to the states, but would like
to understand in more detail the work done for this relative to
the previous invoice. I am convinced that you and Rick are doing
an excellent job, but we have to keep costs under control otherwise
we cannot finish the design with our budget.

With best regards

Peter
