It appears she believes the J-1 route is the way to go.

Well, I do think J-1 would be easiest (and safest) way to go for short
term.

Well, right now he won't get paid by us. However, we may pay for some
of his lodging which may be a room in a house that we have used before
or may be a hotel. Not sure. I was thinking a J-1 would be right too,
but thought I'd ask you. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Penny,
So, this person will not be paid through UIUC funds? Let me double
check, but I'm thinking J-1 too. Has this person been in US before and
what type of lodging: hotel or orchard downs, apt. etc.?

Audra,
Do you know what type of Visa this person would need to come for a
meeting here and also for us to be able to pay some of his lodging?

Subject: October meeting at UIUC (fwd)
Dear Penny,
Mikhail should come to our collaboration meeting and then work with us
for 1 month. So the period should be
Oct-1 to Nov-15 to be on the safe side. Most of the funding will come
from CRDF via the Russian funds, so we are not involved in that. We
might contribute to his lodging expenses from MuCap.
Could you please find out what is the right procedure and visa. In the
past we requested a J-1, I believe, for Genna Petrov.
Many thanks
Peter

Dear Peter, how are you?
We discussed with A. Vorobyov about October meeting at UIUC and
participation from our side.We decide that Misha Levchenko will take
part in this meeting using travel money from CRDF fund.
As you mentioned it is need to prepare invitation for him in advance.
Now I send to you his personal data and passport copy.
It will be good to cover period from 1 to 22 October (or more?) for
detail discussion about data analysis.
Best regards Gennadi
