MuCap Run8 analysis update

Dear all,

I presume that we will not conduct an analysis teleconference tomorrow
(May 30). As such, I would like to mention two things in regard to the
Berkeley analysis:

1. An analysis production pass is currently underway on the merlin
cluster; the software has been designed to illuminate the effects of the
ePCs on the fitted lifetime. Unfortunately, the added code and
Ntuple-generation has slowed down the software considerably, and it will
probably be another two weeks before we have any results.

2. This past week I performed a follow-up on my earlier May 2, 2006,
SRIM-driven scattering studies:

In this latest study I used more realistic SRIM input muon beam parameters
(with generous help from Dan Chitwood), so that I did not have to
artificially smear out the stopping distribution to resemble the Run8
situation. In the end, this more realistic simulation almost exactly
reproduced the earlier results, so my original conclusions remain
unchanged.

Regards,
Tom
