Deuterium corrections for runs 8,9,10

Dear friends,

 in run10 e-log #485, I presented the sample analysis made on May-18-06
at the ETH tandem accelerator with preliminary remarks of mine. In the
meantime I got several important comments from Marat, Sacha, Max
Doebeli (ETH) and Oleg Fedorchenko as follows:

- the Deuterium calibration of our 2004/2005 protium gas with the
D-enriched minisample (item 5 of e-log 485) has several systematic
uncertainties of the order 10%, which must first be cleared in
further measurements and calibrations, possibly next year.

Therefore, this result should at present only be taken as a confirmation
of the direct sample measurements made at ETH.

- the run 8 sample analysis (item 3 of e-log 485) needs to be corrected
by an error bar, since the background was not yet deducted in that case.
The Deuterium value changes therefore from 1.57 ppm to 1.44 ppm.

In conclusion, the following atomic Deuterium concentrations c_d
should be assumed for D-diffusion corrections of runs 8,9 and 10:

1) run 8: c_d = 1.44 +- 0.13 ppm
2) run 9: c_d = 1.45 +- 0.14 ppm
3) run 10: c_d < 0.06 ppm (upper limit)

Next year, we have the chance to reduce the errors of runs 8 and 9, if
the characteristics of the H/D separation column will be better determined
in further systematic studies.

With best regards

Claude
