motivations for building new flash ADCs

Hi, Peter,

Rene signed me up to give an instrumentation seminar in Louvain next Wednesday
on our new FADC board. I should probably begin by explaining why we
started builing this wonderful new device. There were some clear reasons
that I can explain: pulse shape discrimination in the DEMON detectors,
monitoring of thresholds on all TPC anodes/cathodes. However, one of our
largest motivations was the Alvarez search. I am not sure that we have
ever written down (or even clearly thought out) exactly how we intend to
use the additional data from the FADC to improve on a hypothetical
TDC400-based analysis. Any suggestions on how to formulate this best?

Also, I will continue Brendan's analysis of the source calibration data
and come up with some preliminary quotable numbers on the observed n/gamma
separation efficiency at various energies. I will try to have them
ready tomorrow, since we will clearly need to discuss them before my
presentation.

Thanks,

-- Fred
