Re: intersections abstract
Dear Peter and Dave,
below is a draft of an abstract for the muCap talk at CIPANP 2006.
Please comment when you get a chance.
Thanks,
Steven

[Peter's PANIC2005 abstract]
Abstract. The goal of the µCap experiment is a 1% precision
measurement of the muon capture reaction on the free proton.
This determines directly the pseudoscalar form factor g_P to 7%.
This basic quantity is predicted theoretically with high
precision, but the experimental situation is quite controversial.
The new experiment should be an unambiguous measurement of g_P and
a sensitive test of the chiral symmetry of QCD at low energies.
[added for CIPANP 2006]
At the end of 2004, the muCap detector was completed and
commissioned and first physics data were taken.
The analysis of these data is in an advanced stage. The muon
capture rate will be determined to 3%, translating to a measurement
of g_P to 20%. [add disclaimer that the result will not be
presented unblinded at the conference?] Improvements to the
detector, towards reaching the design goal, were made for the
2005 and present 2006 data runs.
