Hi Peter,
I thought of one thing we should check about the hotplate. I remember
that we were using it along with a teapot that we borrowed from the
Hallendienst. It could be that when we returned the teapot we also gave
them the hotplate, thinking that the two went together. Perhaps you
could ask them.
