RE: details of the kicker extraction
Dear Peter and Brendan,
The plans are looking fine. Brendan summarized well in both messages the
situation, expectation, and action.
I am available between now (7:30 to 16:00) at the number 00 43 1 2600 21753
After that time, my cell phoone will be reachabled, except from 17:30-19:00
where I am in the plane to Switzerland.
Hope you will find something visibly wrong in the beampipe.
best regards
Francoise

Subject: details of the kicker extraction
Hi Peter,
I just sent out the email to the kicker team summarizing our
measurement
and plans. This includes some of the details I discussed with
Francoise,
so that I clearly communicate them before the heat of the battle
tomorrow. As such I will cc Francoise so that if I have forgotten
anything
critical or if she thinks of other issues, they can be included. I have
also added Peter and Claude to the list so they are aware of our plans
and
we can seek assitance if necessary.
1) We need to talk to the hallendienst early to inform them of our
plan. We should point out that we will try to investigate in the
morning
and then either we can solve the problem via the bellows or moving the
kicker a little to the side in PiE3 and then reinstalling it, or (more
likely) we would need a work space downstairs (maybe next to mulan
ball?)
2) Then Michael Koller (4276) needs to be contacted regarding the vacuum
pipe. The separator must be shut off from the kicker before it goes to
air and Francoise says Herr Koller will know where to do this (the
screwdriver on top of the valve...) They also have to agree to help us
install the replacement pipe later on and help start the pumping. We
need
to make clear we intend to make beam friday evening, so we should have
permission to do so based on some minumum vacuum achieved.
3) Probably we need an SU to open the beam pipe, maybe Koller will
arrange
this otherwise we should
4) We vent for an hour and then investigate and then move if we can't
fix
it
5) We pump and set up the area for kickerless beam. We will probably
have
to modify our slit settings/tuning to achieve the appropriate rates, but
this can be done later on.
6) When the kicker is moved, we must remember to ground it before
turning
anything on. We should use the standard yellow/green cable.
7) When replugging the HV1 fischer connector that you took apart and
cleaned, we should add some silicon paste. This is in the cardboard box
that francoise left the tools in.
8) We can operate in air and clean the kicker plates with kim wipes and
alcohol after the exposure to air. We can also clean the inside of the
beam pipe in this manner.
This is quite a plan, and I think we have a chance for some excellent
results. Friday should be a fun day. I will try to be in around 8 for
all of the excitement. Please call me if you don't see me by then.
Best regards,
Brendan
