Status and commissioning plans for the CHUPS+TPC system

Dear MuCappers,

in view of the upcoming run scheduling, Malte, Sasha, Marat
and Claude had yesterday a detailed discussion on how and when
to get CHUPS+TPC operational. The present status is as follows:

CHUPS: all the goals of CHUPS operation with dummy tpc,
with humidity sensor and with the new getter volume have
been reached, the humidity approaching the 20-30 ppb level,
see also report from 10.10.05.
The next steps besides further circulation tests should be
joint operation with the TPC when it's ready.

TPC: the TPC has reached 6.2 kV with Sr source in 5 bar N_2,
without any currents or problems during the tuneup. We change
now to 10 bar protium and hope to reach the design voltage
5.8 kV by the END OF OCTOBER.

Our next plans are to flush the TPC several times with ultra
pure N_2 from evaporated liquid N_2, then to move into the
piE3 area for protium filling and connection to CHUPS. Under
humidity control, we want then to heat out the TPC while the
protium is circulating (of course with no voltages applied).
Optimistically, we can reach this state in the FIRST WEEK OF
NOVEMBER - provided there are no major unforeseen difficulties.

Based on these plans, Marat will try to organize his 2 weeks
return to Gatchina as soon as possible, such that he can be
back at PSI in early November and stay until Christmas.

We hope that these time estimates will help you planning the
startup of MuCap.
