Dear Peter and Dave,
I am seating at the general meeting of the IAEA with Ralf Eichler
seated next to me (hey, he choosed it..) We discussed a few things
and he told me that the information about next year shutdown is NOT
CORRECT. Don't quote me wrong, it is not correct because the decision
has not yet been made. The OmegaPi target needs one more test (blowing
a window and seeing the result). This will be done during October.
Only after this test is successfull, can PSI be sure about the
shutdown date.
Therefore, the montage-meeting info was not good. I thought you may
want to know it. The other concern that Ralf is having is still
related to this SINQ target. He is afraid of a bad behaviour and thus
a deterioration of the whole SINQ. He does not only want to have it
safe for human people, but also for the machine itself. Therefore, he
may request more tests. He is particularly afraid of some destructions
which could mean some year of shutdown of the entire SINQ, thus a much
smaller beam for us. Therefore, we should pray that it will go fine.
best regards
Francoise
