Re: amendment

Dear Tom and colleagues,

thanks very much for reviving the tv display program! It was exactly
what we needed today to get the tpc going.

Here is an account what Malte and I achieved today:

1) sector B of the tpc did'nt produce any data yesterday. We verified
that all analog signals are ok showing nice muon pulses. Then we
found that the tdc400 unit was faulty. We replaced it by a spare
unit (nr. 9) changing correspondingly the hard ware label to 2.
Now sector B works, but it seems to be less sensitive giving
    "thinner" muon tracks.
2) sector A of the tpc had a greatly enlarged noise level as compared
to yesterday - obviously being above the low threshold. Despite
many attempts in the area, we could'nt really remove this peoblem.

Steve who took over the evening shift will now try to adjust all
discrimination levels.

3) following the suggestion of Tom, I cabled the tdc400 units as
follows (tdc400 ordering from ch 64 down to 1):

- tdc1: tpc anodes sector A (channels 1-16) low - high - very high
- tdc2: tpc anodes sector B (ch 17-32) "
- tdc3: tpc anodes sector C (ch 33-48) "
- tdc4: tpc anodes sector D (ch 49-64) "
- tdc5: tpc anodes sector E (ch 65-75) "
           + cathodes nr. 33-35
- tdc6: tpc cathodes nr. 1-32 (into tdc400 ch. 64-33),
- tdc7: empty

Tom, please correct or make suggestions, if something is still not
within the preprogrammed intentions.

Once the threshols are properly set (Steves work) we plan to make
a few production runs with mu+ and mu-, then roll out the tpc to
replace the 5 bar N_2 by 10 bar protium, after a prolonged baking
out period.

With best regards

Claude

Steve will try to find the cables to connect PC2 into thge CAENs
